Saab has announced the signing of a contract with German company TKMS to equip four new German Navy frigates belonging to the MEKO A-200 DEU class.
The agreement covers the supply and integration of combat systems, advanced sensors, and composite structures, enhancing the operational capabilities of the future warships.
The contract is estimated to be worth approximately US$870 million, with deliveries scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2032. The vessels will be built in Germany by TKMS, which is leading the project, and the agreement also includes the possibility of expanding the supply to additional frigates.
According to Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson, the partnership strengthens the long-standing cooperation between the company and Germany, while also contributing to the enhancement of the German Navy’s military capabilities in air defense, anti-submarine warfare, and combat against surface vessels.
The planned equipment includes composite superstructures, the 9LV combat system, which combines combat management and fire-control capabilities, and a suite of next-generation sensors.
The package includes the Sea Giraffe 4A Fixed Face radar, designed for long-range surveillance, the Sea Giraffe 1X, intended for multiple missions, as well as passive sensors to enhance the frigates’ situational awareness.
